The Experiment
Can we build a better system for underbanked individuals to save and access income through their communities?
Here's what we know:
- Savings groups have been a HUGE solution for underbanked individuals across the world
- People love the idea of bringing it to the '21st century' with an app
- Community matters
Here's what we want: To make 'susu' or savings groups digitally accessible in a way that improves the experience and creates greater access to capital without losing the community/cultural aspect that makes it magical.
To test whether this is possible, we aim to create a beta Esusu app. Our primary goal with the beta will be to understand three key things:
- Can a historically 'paper and pen' system be translated to mobile devices in a way that captures the essence of the community/purpose of savings groups.
- Is the system we have set up complete in a way that is intuitive to users?
- Does our model encapsulate all the features needed to created engaged/active users?

I am excited to see Esusu launch all over the world and bridge the financial gaps that have limited billions of people who struggle with financial insecurities. I see Esusu serving as the financial lubricate for black and brown communities and I look forward to supporting this team every step of the way!
